With both teams playing on only two days rest, the Maria Stein St. John’s Blu-Jays won their third victory of the gridiron season Sunday afternoon in edging the Wildcats 8-6 after a scoreless first half, on a muddy field at Maria Stein.

 

St. John picked up two points, the winning margin, in the third quarter after blocking a Minster kick from the end zone.  Hogenkamp covered the ball but was unable to get it out of the end zone.

 

The Blu-Jay’s scored a touchdown in the fourth period with Alex Bruggeman going over from the one-yard line after a drive down the field.

 

The Wildcats scored late in the final period when Hogenkamp went over from the six-yard stripe following a mixture of passes and a running attack.

 

With four minutes remaining in the game, St. John received the kickoff and never relinquished the ball.  The stayed on the ground for two first downs and outlasted the clock. 

 

First downs were 13 for St. John, 8 for Minster.
