Minster  19    Piqua Catholic  7

Old Man Weather cast an evil eye on the gridiron fortunes of both Minster and Piqua Catholic, as Minster ground out a 19-7 win at Piqua.  The rain that started Saturday morning and continued throughout to day and most of the night turned the football field into a quagmire.

In the first quarter neither offense cound start a steady drive with each team punting twice.  Piqua’s George Brading and Minster’s Eddie Garmann both kicked well despite the slippery ball.

Minster drew first blood with five minutes to go in the half.  Doc Hogenkamp went 25 yards off tackle to the five and went over for the score on the next play.  Burger’s placement was perfect.

Piqua came back to even it up in the third quarter after recovering a Minster fumble on the 40.  After the Cavalier’s hard running fullback, Jim Seakas, had made a first down on two-line smashes, Brading skirted right end for 30 yards and the touchdown.  Seakas ran for the extra point to tie the score.

The Wildcats went ahead to stay with 10 minutes left in the game.  Phil Wetzel carried for a first down to the nine.  Miller and Wetzel picked up four yards on two line plays.  A Bernhold to Hogenkamp pass put the ball on the one-yard line with fourth down coming up.  Hogenkamp cracked over his own right tackle to make it 13-7.

The visitors applied the clincher with four minutes to go on a 25-yard Bernhold to Hogenkamp pass.

Don Kemper broke his nose in practice during the week and played almost the entire game with a protective headgear.
