LIMA – Minster High
School’s grid team dropped its second game in three starts, 33-6, at Lima
Saturday night, to the new centralized parochial high school, Central Catholic.
Central Catholic
scored with just seven minutes gone in the first quarter. Tom O’Connor hit end Carl Helmig
with a pass from the Minster 40 and Helmig rolled in
from the 29.
Three minutes later
Lima had another, on a 57-yard quick opener with Greg Mikesell the ball
carrier.
The Wildcats
dominated play in the second period but were able to cross the payoff stripe
but once. This was with 2:10 left in the
half when Ted Frericks hit Jay Hogenkamp
with a 13-yard aerial.
At that point it
looked like a rugged ball game coming up in the second half. But Lima took the opening kickoff on its 13
and punched it to the Minster eleven in just six minutes. From there O’Connor tossed to Paul Schroeder,
wide open on the right flank, and he scored.
Taking over on the
Minster 37 after a poor punt, Central drove to the Wildcat one when Bob Sarno jammed over to score.
The last Lima tally was in the last four minutes as O’Connor hit Helmig again, this one good for 27 yards and a touchdown.
Lima recorded 18 first
downs as compared to eight for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats are
confident of evening their record at 2-2 Friday night of this week when they
entertain Piqua Catholic.
