Minster
Dominated by Delphos St. Johns 25-0
By Bruce Monnin
DELPHOS —
Friday night the Minster Wildcats traveled to Delphos, where they have not had
much success in the last 15 or so years. The trend repeated itself, as
the Delphos Blue Jays used dominating defensive line play and aggressive
blitzing to shut out the Wildcats 25-0.
Minster started the game with a drive lasting almost seven minutes, but it
ended in no points when the Wildcats were stopped on 4th down after getting as
far as the Blue Jay 31 yard line. Delphos
responded with a 63 yard touchdown drive to take a 6-0
first quarter lead.
Delphos scored touchdown on a 48 yard drive early in
the second quarter to increase the lead to 12-0. Minster responded before
halftime by driving to the Delphos 24 yard line, where
they were again stopped on downs.
Neither team could score during their first two drives of the second half.
In fact, the Minster offense garnered only two first downs the entire second
half, while Delphos added touchdowns late in the third quarter and the final
score late in the fourth quarter.
Delphos outgained Minster with total yardage of 265 yards compared to only 111
yards for the Wildcats. Ty Parks was held to 16 yards of
37 carries, partly due to losing 50 yards on 12 negative yardage plays. Ty’s
brother Troy almost outgained him with 13 yards on 2 carries.
Next week Friday Minster hosts 1-3 Marion Local in a must win game for their
playoff hopes.
