Harlamert’s Four
First Half Touchdowns Lead Coldwater to 60-0 Victory Over Minster
By Bruce Monnin
COLDWATER —
Between 1988 and 1993, the Minster Wildcats defeated the Coldwater Cavaliers
six straight times. But in the other 46 games in the series, Coldwater has come
out victorious 40 times, including the last 13 meetings by an average of 19
points per game. With Coldwater hosting the game with a 5-1 record and Minster
in the middle of a winless campaign, the odds appeared heavily stacked in favor
of the Cavaliers.
It didn’t take long for the odds to hold true, as
Coldwater scored 27 first quarter points as the foundation for a dominating
60-0 win over Minster.
Tony Harlamert was the most prolific member of the
Cavalier offense in the first half. Tony carried the ball for touchdown runs of
two, three and ten yards, while tacking on a 34-yard interception return at the
end of the first quarter.
Harlamert started the game with a 55-yard kickoff
return. Cory Klenke then completed passes to Ryan Giere and Harlamert and set up Harlamert’s two-yard scoring plunge on the third play of
the game.
After holding Minster without a first down, it took Coldwater just three more
plays to score again. A Klenke to Giere
40-yard pass took the Cavaliers deep into Minster territory, then a 7-yard pass
from Klenke to Adam Homan accounted for the second
Coldwater score.
Minster had their best opportunity of the half when Coldwater fumbled the
Wildcat punt and Jacob Kaiser recovered at the Cavalier 37-yard line. Two
Austin Baumer passes to Brian Mueller and Ty Whitford brought the ball to the Coldwater 24-yard line,
but Minster could drive no farther and turned the ball over on downs.
The following series resulted in Harlamert scoring on
a three-yard run. The next time Minster had the ball, Harlamert
intercepted a pass and ran in
The only scoring in the second quarter was a Harlamert
ten-yard run to give Coldwater a 34-0 halftime lead. The halftime stats showed
Coldwater leading Minster in total yardage by a 309-37 margin.
It was more in the second half. Trent Muhlenkamp
scored two third quarter touchdowns on runs of three and five yards. In the
fourth quarter, Colin Paynter broke loose for a 24-yard touchdown run, and Chad
Westgerdes capped the evening’s scoring with a 60-yard
punt return to provide the final 60-0 score.
With the win, Coldwater extends their record to 41-
