DELPHOS    Coming into Friday night’s contest, the Minster Wildcats had lost thirteen straight games to the Delphos St. Johns Blue Jays by an average of almost 28 points.  Unfortunately for Minster, history repeated itself as the Blue Jays used a strong rushing game and a tough defense to defeat the Wildcats 48-6.

After receiving the opening kickoff, it only took Delphos St. Johns four plays to open the scoring on a 30-yard run by Jordan Leininger.  It would be the first indication of the 417 total rushing yards the Blue Jays would compile on the night.

By the time the game was a little over three minutes old, Delphos scored again.  This time they went through the air as Wes Ulm threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Bergfeld.

While the Minster offense struggled all half, the Wildcat defense played a little tougher, only allowing St. Johns one more score before intermission, a two-yard run by Leininger to make the score 22-0.

Delphos added to the lead twice in the third quarter, using a 26-yard Josh Rode field goal and a three-yard Evan Burgei run to expand the lead to 32-0.  An early fourth quarter 43-yard run by Dylan Dancer increased the Blue Jay advantage to 39-0.

The Wildcats responded with their only scoring drive of the night.  Lou Fullenkamp and Scott Borges combined for 44 yards on five straight rushing plays.  Daniel Gusching followed with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Seth Arnold to get Minster on the board, though at a 39-6 deficit.

Delphos added one more touchdown on a 24-yard Jordan Bergfeld run.  The scoring on the night was capped off when Minster snapped the ball over the punter’s head and through the end zone for a safety to make the score 48-6.

Next week Delphos takes their 3-0 record back on the road to face 1-2 New Bremen.  1-2 Minster returns home to host the 1-2 Fort Recovery Indians.
