Anna Dominates in 62-0 Win Over Minster

By Bruce Monnin

ANNA    The Anna Rockets did not waste any time in establishing their superiority over the Minster Wildcats, as it took them only the first seven minutes of the game to grab an early 34-0 lead.  Anna gradually expanded their advantage to secure the 62-0 victory.

Minster struggled mightily during those first seven minutes, while the Rockets were firing on all cylinders.  The game started with the Wildcats attempting an onside kick, which Anna recovered near midfield.  Four plays later, Kameron Knight exploded for a 39-yard touchdown run to make the score 7-0.

On Minster’s initial possession Wesley Hunsucker intercepted a Wildcat pass and returned it 18 yards.  On the next play Hunsucker threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Alex Fogt, and the rout was on.

Dexter Bensman intercepted a Minster pass on their next possession and returned it 49 yards to the Wildcat 7-yard line.  Two plays later Knight scored another rushing touchdown.  After a Minster punt, this time it took the Rockets only one play to score, a 35-yard pass from Hunsucker to Derek Billing.

Minster’s futility continued on the first play after the kickoff when Billing intercepted a Wildcat pass and returned the pick 30 yards for another score.  With five minutes still remaining in the first quarter, the Anna lead was already 34-0.

The Rockets added two touchdowns in the second quarter.  Hunsucker connected with Billing for another 20-yard scoring strike, then Hunsucker finished out the half with a three-yard run for the 48-0 lead.

Anna added two final scores in the second half.  Jason Christman scored on a one-yard run in the third quarter, then Wes Wolters finished the scoring with an 80-yard gallop midway through the fourth period.

Converted offensive lineman Ross Wuebker led the Wildcats with 48 yards rushing, but the failed onside kick and four first quarter turnovers were too much for Minster to overcome on the night.

Anna moves 6-1 (4-1 MAC) and will travel to play the 4-3 New Bremen Cardinals next Friday.  Minster drops to 1-6 (0-5 in the MAC) and will host 0-7 Parkway with each team looking for their first MAC win of the season.
