Minster Takes Care of Business Early to Defeat Sidney Lehman, 46-7

MINSTER    The Minster Wildcats looked like a team in a hurry against the Sidney Lehman Cavaliers.  They set two school records on their first offensive play and scored touchdowns on seven of their eight first half drives win handily, 46-7.

Minster lined up for their first offensive play of the game on their own six-yard line.  Quarterback Adam Niemeyer threw the ball deep, hitting wide receiver Troy Kauffman just short of midfield.  Kaufman outran the defense for a 94-yard touchdown, setting a new Minster record for longest reception in school history.   The yardage on the play also made Niemeyer the Wildcat career passing yardage leader.  His 248 yards on the night gives him 2,876 passing yards for his career.

The hits kept coming for Minster.  On their next offensive play, Niemeyer connected with Ethan Wolf for a 31-yard touchdown pass.  Niemeyer would also toss scoring throws of 53 yards to Korey Schultz and nine yards to Wolf before the first quarter ended.

After four passing touchdowns in the first quarter, the Wildcats went to the ground in the next stanza.  Schultz posted the fifth touchdown of the night on a 29-yard run, followed by two Niemeyer scoring runs of 23 and 27 yards.

Lehman would score on a 21-yard pass from Nick Rourke to Andrew Westerheide with 2:36 remaining in the game to make the final tally 46-7.

Minster coach Nate Moore noted the early deep passes had been part of the game plan.  “We thought we had an advantage with our skilled players on the outside, and they made the plays.”

Next week Saturday Minster (2-0) remains at home to face their neighbors to the immediate north, the 0-2 New Bremen Cardinals.
