Huge Second Quarter
Keys Coldwater 49-14 Win over Minster
By

MINSTER — For the
second year in a row, the Coldwater Cavaliers traveled to face off against the
Minster Wildcats. And for the second
year in a row, Coldwater returned home with a convincing victory.
After an early feeling out process, Coldwater
scored late in the first quarter and then erupted for another 35 points in the
second period to set the running clock in action for the entire second half en route to a 49-14 win.
After being stopped on downs deep in Minster
territory on their first possession, the Cavaliers struck paydirt on their
second offensive series. A 39-yard pass
from Myles Blasingame to Jesse Meyer set up a three yard
rushing touchdown for Blasingame, making the score 7-0 at the end of the first
quarter.
Coldwater started the second quarter with a 58-yard
touchdown run by Meyer on a reverse play, and they never slowed down from there. Another five-yard scoring toss from
Blasingame to Meyer soon followed, as did a 34-yard scoring toss from
Blasingame to Ty Schwieterman.
Minster revived their hopes briefly when Johnny
Nixon connected with Devan Wuebker for a 23-yard
score to reduce the Cavalier lead to 28-7, but two more Coldwater touchdowns
passes from Blasingame to Zach McKibben and Meyer increased the margin to 42-7
at the half.
The Cavaliers came out to start the third
quarter with one last score, a 57-yard scoring run by Marcel Blasingame. Minster would score once in the fourth
quarter against the Coldwater backups on a six-yard Conner Albers run to
account for the final 49-14 tally.
“We have some really good skilled guys who can
really run,” was how Coldwater coach Chip Otten explained their offensive
success. “We took advantage of that, and
Miles (Blasingame) had a really good game.
Last week he overthrew a couple, but this week he played really well.”
Blasingame indeed compiled some impressive
statistics. He completed 11 of 14 passes
for 185 yards and four touchdowns, while he also ran the ball 14 times for 115
yards and another score.
Coldwater, now 2-0, returns home to face the
1-1 Fort Recovery Indians next week. 0-2
Minster hits the road to face the 1-1 St. Henry Redskins.
