Coldwater Overwhelms Minster 42-0

COLDWATER  -  From the opening drive, the Coldwater Cavaliers overwhelmed the Minster Wildcats in all phases of the game to compile a 42-0 victory.

Coldwater came charging right out of the locker room.  After returning the opening kickoff past midfield, the Cavaliers needed six plays to cover the required 47 yards, with Tyler Schwieterman running 31 yards for the opening score.

After a punt return for another score was called back due to an illegal block, Coldwater needed just five plays to go 50 yards.  Issac Fullenkamp finished the drive, carrying it eight yards to make the score 14-0.

The Cavaliers started their third drive 55 yards from paydirt.  They only needed one play, a deep pass from Reece Dellinger to Schwieterman to increase the advantage to 21-0 before lightning brought a halt to the action with 3:45 remaining in the quarter.

The half hour weather delay did not change to momentum of the game.  Fullenkamp capped off a drive early in the second quarter with a three-yard touchdown run, then did the same later in the half with a 38-yard gashing of the Minster defense to make the score 35-0.

The Coldwater defense was also dominant, as they did not allow Minster their initial first down after they had established their 35-point first half lead.  The Cavalier defense held the Wildcats to a total of 63 net yards for the game.

The running clock was in effect for the entire second half.  Coldwater added a score on their opening drive, with Fullenkamp again doing the honors from 27 yards out.  The subs for both sides rounded out the game for the final 42-0 score.

“We had a pretty bad taste in our mouth after last week,” said Coldwater coach Chip Otten, “and we just wanted to play clean.  Our old skilled guys had some good matchups with their extremely young secondary.  We still have an opportunity if we can win next week to maybe share the league title.  But we can’t do that if we don’t take care of this week.”

Fullenkamp only ran the ball ten times on the night but compiled 108 rushing yards and four touchdowns.  Dellinger added 160 yards through the air with eight completions in 11 attempts and tacked on another 51 yards on the ground.  Austin Wellman ran for 52 yards and caught two passes for 19 yards to lead Minster in both categories.

Coldwater, now 7-1, goes on the road next week to face undefeated Marion Local in an attempt to claim a portion of the MAC title.  1-7 Minster returns home to play the 3-5 Anna Rockets.
