Defense
Leads Minster to 42-0 Win over Cincinnati College Prep

SIDNEY
– The Minster Wildcat defense wreaked havoc on the Cincinnati College Prep
Lions, holding their opponents to negative ten total first half yards and
scoring a defensive touchdown in the third quarter to seal a 42-0 victory.
The
Minster defensive line spent most of the first half in the College Prep
backfield, as Ian Homan, Gabe Bornhorst and Will Frimel combined for four first
half sacks.
“They
had set a running back in protection against Ian Homan,” explained Wildcat
coach Seth Whiting, “He’s pretty good.
He’s six foot three, 215 pounds and fast. That’s a lot to deal with. And Will Frimel might be the best defensive
tackle I’ve ever coached.”
When
asked if Frimel was the best player on the team, Whiting responded that “He has
an argument. We have a lot of really talented kids all over the place, but 57 (Frimel)
would be in that argument.”
Minster
received the opening kickoff and used a methodical ten-play drive capped by a
three-yard Brogan Stephey run to take the early 7-0 lead. The Wildcats only needed four plays on their
second drive, with Stephey throwing for 18 yards to James Niemeyer to increase
the lead to 15-0.
Minster
crossed the goal line three times in the second quarter. Dominck Meyer followed up a 23-yard carry
with a one-yard scoring plunge. Soon
after, Stephey threw 28 yards to Dylan Heitkamp for the next score. Finally, after the Lions were driven back by
two Wildcat sacks, Stephey connected with Niemeyer again, this time for a
32-yard score to make the lead 35-0 at intermission.
College
Prep returned the second half kickoff almost to midfield, but four plays later
Chase Couse forced a fumble which was picked up by Heitkamp and returned 55
yards for the defensive score. Neither
team scored again with the running clock in action, resulting in the final 42-0
count.
Minster
outgained Cincinnati College Prep 307 yards to -10 in the first half
alone. The Wildcats only added another
12 yards in the second half, while the Lions managed to increase their total to
63 yards. Niemeyer led in the offensive
stats, catching five passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
Cincinnati
College Prep ends their season with a 9-3 mark.
Minster’s record improves to 11-2, and next week the Wildcats will have
a rematch with undefeated Marion Local to determine the champion of Region 28.
“That’s
what you’re fighting for,” added Whiting.
“You want a chance to play those people.
We’ll try to crack the code of those guys.”
