Minster Dominates Convoy Crestview 37-0

MINSTER - In the first half, the Minster Wildcats’ rushing game averaged 9.5 yards per carry and scored three touchdowns and a field goal to lead 24-0 over the Convoy Crestview Knights. The Wildcats ended the contest rushing the ball 44 times for 395 yards and five touchdowns in a 37-0 victory.

“There were some things we thought we going to open up in the passing game,” admitted Minster coach Seth Whiting. “I assumed that their safeties were going to trigger downhill and fill a little bit. They left the safeties back and we just kept on running. Anytime you run for almost 400 yards it is a good night.”

Minster scored on three first half touchdown runs. The first was a 39-yard effort by Taylor Fancher, followed by a 3-yard plunge by James Kuehner and a 2-yard run by Carson Kaylor.

The Wildcats received the ball for their last first half possession at their own 40-yard line with 29 seconds remaining. Kaylor passes to John Inskeep and Beckham Stephey brought the ball to the Crestview 7-yard line. Then for the second game in a row Beckham Stephen kicked a field goal as the half expired, this week from 24 yards out.

“I am really excited about how well our kids handle limited clock operations,” added Whiting. “That’s two weeks in a row that we’ve driven the ball and gotten a field goal before the end of the half.”

Midway through the third quarter James Kuehner scored on a 5-yard run to set the running clock into operation. Minster tacked on a final score when freshman quarterback Crew McClurg broke through the Crestview line for a 61-yard exclamation point to this 37-0 game.

Kaylor was the leading rusher for the Wildcats. He carried the ball 11 times for 135 yards and one touchdown, while also completing 7 passes for 80 yards. Fancher added 74 yards on five carries and McClurg compiled 69 yards on just two runs. Ty Hein added 51 yards on 12 carries, Kuehner totaled 28 yards in six carries and Chase Bishop added 27 yards on six attempts.

Next week, 2-0 Minster will go on the road to start MAC play at 2-0 New Bremen. 0-2 Convoy Crestview returns home to play 1-1 Wayne Trace.
