Imperfect Moms serving a Perfect God ~ Imperfect Women serving a Perfect God ~ Imperfect People serving a Perfect God ~ Imperfect People loving a Perfect God
Last Updated:  Friday, November 04, 2005

I started this area of our site because I felt compelled to.  I pray that it accomplish what God has for it to accomplish and be done for His Glory!

If you have been blessed by anything you see or read here, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

Why the title -

I had been going through a particular tough period in my life.  Tough because of what was going on in my mind, not tough because of a whole lot of outward things.  I was experiencing episodes of panic and anxiety, as well as an extreme feeling of vulnerability and sadness.  I began seeking God about this, and over and over He showed me that He wasn't looking for me to be perfect.  That He wanted me to submit myself to Him, focus on Him (and not on fixing myself - to some how be more pleasing to Him), and allow Him to be glorified in what He did through me.  So ... Imperfect Moms serving a Perfect God ... Imperfect Women serving a Perfect God ... Imperfect People serving a Perfect God ... Imperfect People loving a Perfect God.

Resources -

I will try to compile a comprehensive list of resources that are well categorized to help you find what might be of benefit to you.

The Bible (electronically):
There is a wonderful electronic Bible program called e-Sword that is just wonderful.  It is available for free (in fact the author has made it illegal to offer it for sale).  It has wonderful search capabilities, Bible reading programs, areas for your own notes, support for many translations and  the ability to compare translations.  It is available at www.e-sword.org

Ministries:
My local church (New Life Christian Center, Celina, Ohio)

Sites maintained by Joe and I:  NewLifeKids.org  and NarrowMinded.us

Joyce Meyer

I used to be able to watch her on our local Christian TV station (WTGN, Lima, Ohio) at 6:30 each morning before I left for work.  However the schedule has changed and I see her much less frequently now, but continue to be blessed by the Word that I heard from her.  She is a very practical, honest teacher of God's Word.

T.D. Jakes

I watch him every once in a while on TBN and have been blessed by some of his messages.  He is definitely an energetic, passionate teacher.  He taught a series called "If You Can Give It Up, You Can Have it All" that ministered greatly to me.

Paula White

I also watch her every once in a while on TBN and have been blessed by the Word that she has ministered.  She also is a passionate preacher of God's Word.

Books:
I am not a big time reader, so I may not be the best source for great Christian books, but the ones I have been blessed by were worth the read for me, so I pray they will bless some of you also.  If anyone else has some recommended books, I'd love to hear about them.

Don't Forget to Look Up

Tender Mercies for a Mother's Soul

Specific to Children's / Youth Ministry:

Weight / Eating:

The Lord's Table

I must confess, I did not complete this program.  But I will tell you that the days that I did follow it and the Biblical understanding that they provided were amazing for me.

- Blogs
Blogs have been an interesting discovery for me beginning sometime in 2002 or 2003.  These are basically online journals generally maintained by individuals.  Often they include the option for readers to post comments in response to entries made.  At various points in my life I have read blogs maintained by infertile women, by new moms, by Christian women, by scrapbookers, by adoptive moms, and so on.  I have found great comfort in reading many of these because it reminds me of the humanity in us all.  I have found practical help from others who have been where I was at that given time.  I have found words that expressed what I was finding so hard to articulate.  I have also found things that did not minister to my spirit at all and very sad things that were hard for me.  But all in all, I think blogs have been a good discovery for me.  I am a big time journaller, and have contemplated starting a blog, but have not yet.

Journaling
I am very analytic, so journaling serves more than one purpose for me.  Of course, it is an outlet for my thoughts and memories.  But for me, it also ends up serving as a source of encouragement.  The Bible tells us to not forget all the ways the Lord our God has lead us.  My journal becomes a resource that I dive back into and look to, to see how God had ministered to me in the past, or even more mundane things like how long did it take before my kids slept well through the night.  I have found that journaling in just a plain ole word processing program works very well for me.  I start each entry with the day of the week, the date, then I just write.  I don't try to say anything important.  The electronic medium is wonderful for me because it allows me to easily search back for old entries.  Then once I find them I can see by the entry notes when that entry was made.

Journaling doesn't have to be your thing; and if it is not don't get down on yourself.  Like I've said other places here, I am not a big reader.  Sometimes I feel bad about that, but I realize we are all different and God loves that!
