Happy Easter!

This year, I had the distinct honor of getting to deliver the packages to the hospital. Once again this was a particularly heart touching process. The hospital is undergoing some major renovations so a temporary entrance has been setup which is quite a ways from the main front desk where everyone must go if they need room numbers or to find out about testing procedures etc. In order to ease this effort some, there are a number of wagons, car-shaped strollers, etc marked with "For your use - provided by Child Life Services". I can't help but recognize the desire to make even such fundamental things as movement inviting to children. Yet at the same time acknowledge the only reason they are there is because there is a need and nearly every person using those wagons / car-strollers would rather not be.

These are just some of the items that are packaged with care.

Somehow this reminded me of the Easter Buddies "baskets" themselves. Yes, probably most people who receive them would much rather not "need" to receive them, yet they will serve as yet another reminder that there are people outside those 4 walls who care, who are praying, who want to make something that is otherwise very difficult a little lighter if only for a little while and in a little way.

You know the other thing that really hit me this year is that this is the 7th time we have done this project. I have to wonder did some of those Jr. High students who got those first clumsy baskets hold on to any of the items as a reminder of and a battle fought and won and now maybe have that special item with them in their college dorm. Did any of the parents have to hold on to an item as a reminder of battle fought and maybe not won, but prayerfully a war that indeed has been won

I know I can be very sentimental, and in that way, probably discount too much the fleetingness of these efforts. But something within me knows that even fleeting joy is joy! And I thank God for that. May we all seek to add joy to others lives in big and small ways.

Tina finally takes a break from picture taking (or whatever it is that she does) and joins in helping.

This is the poem which is written on each of the gift tags:

These Special Wishes
Are Just for You ...

When you close your eyes at the
end of each day, I wish you
contented and peaceful sleep.
When you are fearful or uncertain,
I wish for warmth and light
to surround you.
When you dream,
I wish you soaring images and
endless possibilities.
When you wake each morning,
I wish you the joy of anticipating
a beautiful day ahead.
When you face problems,
I wish you boundless strength and
courage to guide you.
When you walk along your path,
I wish you lasting friendships
to brighten your way.
Most of all,
I wish you love ...
to fill your heart and make your
world complete.
